How to Calculate Days Between Two Dates?

Steps to calculate day duration:

1. Subtract the starting date from the ending date
2. If the duration consists of many years, you have to work for years first
3. After that, subtract the months to get an accurate duration
4. Do the same for the remaining days, if left
5. Convert all the values to the same unit (seconds, minutes, hours, etc.)
6. Add all the values together to calculate the duration in a single unit

To find weeks between dates, divide the total number of days by 7, such that;

Weeks = Days Between Dates/7

Months Between Dates:

To calculate number of days between a couple of dates, you need to know the days in each month (both during regular and leap years). For instance, you can review the following table:

Leap Years Between Dates:

Leap year repeats itself every 4 regular years, comprising 366 days. To find leap years between dates, you need to follow the steps as under:

1. Calculate the total days between days, either manually or by using the date duration calculator above
2. Now divide the number of days by 4 to get the leap years
3. Remember that leap years are not mentioned as decimal, so you need to round off such decimal numbers to justify the complete leap years

Example (Date Duration)

Find the number of days between January 1, 2020, and December 31, 2024.

Solution:

Step 01: Subtract the Starting Date From the Ending Date:

December 31, 2024 - January 1, 2020 = 4 years and 364 days

Step 02: Work With Years First:

4 years = 4 * 365 days/year = 1460 days

Step 03: Subtract the Months:

There are no months to subtract since we're dealing with years.

Step 04: Calculate Remaining days:

364 days

Step 05: Convert All Values to the Same Unit:

All values are already in days.

Step 06: Add All Values Together:

1460 days + 364 days = 1824 days
